Surfers’ Environmental Alliance Announces
Paddle Around Manhattan to Benefit Autism Awareness
Sea Bright, New Jersey & Haleiwa, Hawaii,
May 2, 2007 — The Surfers’ Environmental Alliance (SEA)
announced today that it is organizing the first ever surf paddle
around the island of Manhattan, New York City. The invitation-only,
28-mile paddle will take place on Monday, July 16th and will be
completed by about two-dozen participants. Participants will be
on stand-up paddleboards and traditional surfboards. All proceeds
will benefit Surfers Healing, Autism Speaks, NJCOSAC and SEA.
“SEA Paddle NYC will help create awareness
of our organization’s fight to preserve our coastal waterways,
while raising money for a condition that is more prevalent in New
Jersey than any other state,” said Andrew Mencinsky, Executive
Director of SEA. He continued, “Surfing and being in the ocean
has also proven to provide autistic kids a rare sense of calm and
tranquility. This event is a win-win for everyone involved.”
